Color Theory

Color Theory
  1. Define hue: a color or shade; It is the best word to reference the pure spectrum or colors.
  2. Define value: is the relative darkness or lightness of a given color or hue.

  3. Define saturation: is the state or process that occurs when no more of something can be absorbed, combined with, or added.
  4. How many colors are available on our computers?: The total is 16,777,216 colors. The human eye can discriminate up to ten million colors.
  5. Define secondary color: is a color made by mixing two or more primary colors in a giving color space
  6. Define tertiary color: are the resulting colors when an equal amount of a primary and secondary color are mixed
  7. Define complementary colors: are colors that, when combined, cancel each other out. Meaning that when combined, it creates black. If colored lights are used then it creates white.

  8. What are the primary colors in Photoshop?: RGB, aka Red, Green, and Blue.
  9. What are the secondary colors in Photoshop?: Orange, Green, and Purple
  10. Define subtractive color model: Also known as CYMK, it is the four inks used in some color printing: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (Black). 
  11. Define additive color model: The RGB color model is an additive color model in which red, free, and blue light are added together in various ways to reproduce a broad array of colors.
  12. Is RGB additive or subtractive?: Additive.
  13. What is the CMYK color model used for?: it is used for color printing, and also used to describe the printing process itself.
  14. Define analogous colors: are groups of three colors that are next to each other on the color wheel, with one primary color and two secondary colors on either side of the color.
  15. Define tint: a shade or variety of color
  16. Define shadea color, especially with regard to how light or dark it is or as distinguished from one nearly like it.
  17. Define neutral: having no strongly marked or positive characteristics or features (ex: Light Gray or Beige)
  18. Define monochromatic: means containing or using only one color.

  20. What can be said in general about cool colors?: they are calming, relaxing, and somewhat reserved.

  22. Which color symbolizes royalty?: Purple
  23. Which is the color of cleanliness?: White
  24. Which color symbolism freshness?: Green
  25. Which colors are associated with joy?: Yellow
  26. Which color symbolizes passion and danger?: Red
